The mineral, although known for centuries, was first reported in 1792 by J.C. Delamethrie and was named

from the Greek word “stauros”, meaning “cross” referring to the cruciform twin crystallization analyzed.

This mineral is a talisman of good luck. It is also called the “Fairy Stone” or “Fairy Cross” and was said, historically, to be the crystallized tears of fairies, formed when the fairies were brought the news of the death of Christ.

It is used in ceremonies of white magic and can facilitate the action of the rituals, further bringing the instinctive knowledge of methods and procedures relevant to same.

It can also be used to provide a connection to information from the ancients of the Middle East; it is said that the cruciform configuration of this stone was used to heal Richard the Lionhearted of a malarial-type disorder during The Crusades
